Intern - Quantitative Analyst/Computational Modeller
DeciSci has a number of smaller R&D modelling projects that would suit
someone with a quantitative, theoretical and/or computational background. There are projects from
industry, ecology, economics, the social sciences and other areas.
Candidates are encouraged to combine quantitative and computational work.
Potential project areas include:
- Manufacturing and logistics strategies
- Pedestrian movement and related areas in transportation
- Combining biophysical and socioeconomic models
- Complexity of ecological models
- Analyzing environmental monitoring data
- Applying physics ideas to finance
Duties may include, depending on the project and background:
- Clear and complete documentation of requirements
- Formulation of problems as mathematical, statistical or computational models
- Statistical analysis and data mining
- Exact, approximate and numerical solution of the formulated models
- Simulation modelling
- Programming as needed to perform the above tasks
Some of the following skills are desirable:
- Study in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, statistics, econometrics or physics
- Some experience in mathematical modeling or statistical analysis
- Use of software packages (such as Mathematica or R) to solve quantitative problems
- Ability to write software to solve statistical/mathematical problems
- Java programming an advantage
- Fluency in written English and a good command of conversational English
- Ability and interest to learn quickly technical material
- Ability to work on their own with minimal direction
- Ability to deliver to their best ability on time and with quality
